I just started doing online dating on Singlenet.com. It is a real experience even if nothing ever pan's out.
The service has this thing where you can send a "flirt" to others you may be interested in. How juvenile can you get, "Send a Flirt"! This is kind of like being in third grade where you had a friend pass a note to a pretty little girl saying " I like you" but being afraid to sign your name. Then the receiver can "Flirt Back" with a phrase like "I like your picture". This whole process is so lame.
The good news is other people put up with the degrading process in order to make a connection with someone they would be willing to meet with. Yet if you really analyze this, it makes no sense. If I were to walk up to a woman and say "hello would you like to go have a cup of coffee." Almost no woman would accept that invitaion. This is true even though she would be able to see you and see that you were not a bum and that the coffee would be in a very public place. Yet many men and women pay to be on these sites to "meet others". And after reading your profile (which really says very litttle about you) and sending a few superficial emails back and forth are willing to meet.
It's crazy but I must admit it is kind of fun in a perverse kind of way.

Wow, what kind of perversion you may consider? Are you dating the really young ladies... I am also involved in this type of "entertainment" but have never found the exciting "forbidden fruit" after-taste. Just more possibilities to meet a women I really want for longer. Othervise, if you are after 50 and retired - there is not a lot of possibilities to find interesting women nowadays. Unless you may want to meet someone in the bar...but I had just disgusting experience with it. You know what I am saying...I suppose. But it seems trivial. Tell something about the perverse side. I must be missing something...B.
Well Anonymous
I think we got our wires crossed here. The perverse that I was talking about is that I and others are willing to put up with the childish things that the web site establishes like "Flirting".
I hope no one reads more into the word "perverse" than that.
hee-hee
Please consider this Retired Guy and visitors: When a person takes the time to email someone who looks interesting, they are somehow investing more of themself than if they send "a flirt."
Flirting is an ego-protecting way to approach the person.
RT: Have you ever actually walked up to a woman on the street and asked her to join you for a cup of coffee? It seems to me that the trick to success in doing this is to be able to determine that she has the time.
Well, have you had any luck with this "perverse" entertainment?
I give up. I take back any reference to the word "Perverse". The people I have met at singlesnet have all been wonderful people. No one has been anthing other than very normal and very nice.
Th good news is that this posting has had the most comments I have ever had on my blog.
Ah ha! And you thought no one read your blog!! lol

Someone must be reading your blog....but have you had the opportunity to meet anyone special? or anyone that you might be interested in dating now that you have so much time on your hands.
